About

Florence, Italy

Hello!

My name is Scharine Kirchoff.  I am a food and travel explorationist.

I live in Houston, Texas with my husband, Ron, a golden retriever, Gus, and our cat, Oleander.  However, I’m not really a Texan with cowgirl boots and hat.

I was born in Naha, Okinawa… grew up in southcentral Alaska USA, attended college and graduate school in Massachusetts USA…and…have lived and worked in the U.S. and in several international locations.

No matter where I am, however, I still act like I’m an Alaskan–independent and spirited.  My husband, “R”, reminds me of this often.

I find inspiration all around me to create and explore new recipes.  It doesn’t matter where we are…at our local organic food co-op in Houston, TX USA…wandering the streets in Hong Kong, Italy, Brasil or Hungary…when all of a sudden, an idea pops into my mind about some flavors that I just have to “test” in the next few days.  I just can’t seem to help myself.  Oh Joy!  I love the adventure!  Thank goodness for my husband and good friends…

They often collaborate with me as my taste testers so that I can get a recipe “just right”.  Ahh…another wonderful, delectable and wholesome dish that feeds our body and soul.  Perhaps you can help me too?

I hope you enjoy the “Susitna Cafe’ Chronicles” as much as I enjoy writing it and sharing it with you, my Cafe’ friends.  Welcome to our global Cafe’ community!

Cheers, SusitnaCafe@gmail.com

AWESOME!! I have really enjoyed all your blogs – especially the video on Italian culture. There were several LOL moments. I spent about 2 months there some years ago and took quite a while to get over the culture shock. I loved it!!!
